| Art I class working on shape project |
Art I teaches skills from drawing, to painting, to sculpture, but also inspires students to not only "learn to draw," but "learn to see." Learning to see things differently and to notice artistic designs enhance their own artistic abilities. By teaching the elements of art and principles of design, these tools become building blocks to interpret works of art in history and the modern world, to discover new ways of seeing and connecting, and to create personal expressions and opinions.
Art II is an application and practice class. Skills developed along with elements and principles learned in Art I are applied more in depth to studio painting, drawing, and sculpture. Content in art is introduced and applied with the developed skills to add a greater purpose and meaning to the created works of art.
Painting will focus on enhancing the knowledge of the elements of art and principles of design while developing the skills using a variety of painting materials such as oil, acrylic, and watercolor. The students begin with a strong base in color theory and conclude the class with a collection of finished paintings.

The overall purposes and goals for all art classes at David Lipscomb high school are to reveal connections, create awareness, evoke thought, view the world with fresh eyes, and unveil the creativity inside of students along with their creative surroundings to ultimately help them better appreciate and know God.
